About the Opportunity

The Payroll Manager is accountable for the strategic management and delivery of accurate and timely payroll services to the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office (TCEO). You will lead a dedicated team, ensuring best practice payroll services and compliance with payroll legislation and policies.

Reporting to the System Lead: Finance, you will collaborate with the Corporate Services team, People Services team, and other key stakeholders across the organisation to lead and shape the delivery of payroll services while upholding the organisations strategic vision and priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring compliance with legislation and accurate record-keeping.
  • Manage Long Service Leave Fund transfers and reimbursements.
  • Support school/college payroll administrators with payroll enquiries.
  • Monitor payroll budget and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collect, reconcile, and analyse payroll data and prepare mandatory government reports.
  • Foster relationships within TCEO and with school/college Principals, ensuring alignment with TCEO strategies.
  • Lead and mentor the Centralised Payroll team, ensuring high-quality service and professional development.

Essential Criteria:

  • 5+ years’ experience in payroll management.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll procedures, legislation, and enterprise agreements.
  • Tertiary qualification in commerce, business management, or accounting.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Licence, Working with Vulnerable People Registration, and satisfactory National Police Check.
  • Accreditation A to work in a Catholic School. 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in payroll within an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with HRP Modules in TechnologyOne.

  • Strong leadership, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive matters.
  • Collaborative with strategic thinking and adaptability.
