The College invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the ongoing, term-time only position of Teacher Assistant – Design & Technology (MDT) to support Teachers in the delivery of defined educational programs, activities and interventions for students.

About the Role

The Teacher Assistant – Design & Technologies (MDT) is responsible for the effective delivery of quality educational support for students to enable enhanced learning outcomes with a specific focus on Design and Technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support to teachers and students with operating machinery, equipment and tools for the purpose of preparation and distribution of learning materials.
  • Ensures the workshop is organised, prepared for classes, and operates in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
  • Sources technical supplies for class work and ensures materials are measured, cut, and fit for purpose.
  • Engages with teaching staff on a regular basis to understand machinery, tools, equipment, and resources required for every lesson.
  • Operates in a fast-paced environment, regularly subject to change in an organised and pro-active manner.
  • Works with students to use specialised technology where required.
  • Communicates to teachers any difficulties, concerns and successes experienced by students or parental concerns.
  • Support students with challenging behaviours in accordance with organisational policy and guidelines.

About You

You are a reliable and self-motivated professional with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You demonstrate integrity, initiative, and a strong commitment to maintaining a welcoming and encouraging school workshop environment. You have a strong understanding and respect for professional boundaries and child safety.

Previous cabinet making or building experience will help you succeed in this role both in the classroom, and in maintaining an efficient school workshop. You also bring excellent communication skills and a willingness to support the Catholic ethos of the school.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications and/or equivalent experience with relevant tools and machinery.

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid Working with Vulnerable People Registration.
  • Current and satisfactory National Police Criminal History Check (NPCHC).

Desirable

  • Certificate III in Education Support.
  • Education sector experience.
  • Previous cabinetry or building experience would be highly regarded.
  • Current First Aid Certificate

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024.
