School Administration Assistant

St Finn Barr’s Catholic School is seeking a friendly, organised and service‑focused School Administration Assistant to join our front‑of‑house team. This important role supports the daily operations of the school by providing professional reception services, administrative support and student wellbeing assistance in a busy and dynamic environment.
As a key first point of contact for students, families, staff and visitors, the School Administration Assistant contributes to a welcoming, supportive and efficient school environment while upholding the Catholic Identity and mission of St Finn Barr’s.
About the Role
The School Administration Assistant provides high‑quality administrative and reception support to ensure the smooth day‑to‑day functioning of the school. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, initiative and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Principal, staff and the wider school community to support positive learning outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Act as the first point of contact for families, visitors and community members.
- Manage incoming phone, email and face‑to‑face enquiries.
- Maintain a welcoming, professional and service‑focused reception area.
- Develop and maintain spreadsheets, databases and administrative records.
- Maintain office equipment, supplies and stock levels.
- Maintain accurate manual and electronic files.
- Ensure filing systems are up to date, secure and compliant.
- Provide first aid and student care in accordance with school procedures.
- Assist with student health plans, medication administration and family communication.
Required Skills, Experience and Attributes
We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates:

- Experience in reception or customer service, ideally in a busy office.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- High‑level written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively amid competing demands and interruptions.

- Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Initiative and problem‑solving capability.
Qualifications
Required:
- Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
- Current National Police Criminal History Check.
- Accreditation A (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable:
- Certificate IV in Business Services or equivalent.
- Current First Aid qualification.
- Current Tasmanian driver licence.
- Experience working in a school environment.
